Happy News

My mom called me yesterday,
after her chemo appointment.
She met with her oncologist.
He told her that the liver enzymes in her blood
have lowered and that the
cancer markers in her blood are also lower.
The long and the short of it is that the
chemo seems to be working.
He emphasized not to get too excited, because
this is the first blood test. Hard not to
be excited, because he was also surprised
that the chemo has been so effective.
Just wanted to share our answer to prayer.

A Very Special Visit

On Friday, we got a call from the boys' new foster mother.
She was exhausted and needing a break.
We had the PRIVILEGE of bringing the boys to our house for a visit.
It was a double treat, because it was also the baby's
second birthday.
Hard to believe that he's already two.
We can't have a birthday go unnoticed, so we threw together
a very fun second birthday party for a
very special little boy.
The kids helped me decorate and pick out favors.
We enjoyed a yummy dinner and some
cupcakes!
Having the boys home makes our family
feel so complete. When they are away from us,
our hearts ache. Having them home, just for a few days
was so much fun.
I'm so thankful that their current foster
mom knows how special they are to us
and how much they will always be a part of us.
She has maintained a relationship with us, and I am
so grateful.
Our prayer remains that the boys' birth mother will one
day allow us to adopt them. Perhaps she'll realize that we love
her and her boys, and we would love to
raise the boys.
For now, we continue to trust that we
did the right thing by removing them. Knowing
that the court system drags on for these kids, and that
for them, a permanent home is not
in their near future is heart breaking. I trust that the Lord has
allowed us to remain a part of their lives for a
reason. I pray that they will know how much they
are loved. Even if they don't live with us.
For now, we enjoy the moments that we've been
given with them. We enjoy the unexpected
surprise of them staying with
us. Waking up in our home, and going to
sleep with our kids.
We enjoy the sounds of our four children running, laughing,
and playing in the yard.
Although we don't see the future for them, God
does. He brought them to us, and I
pray that he will return them to us.

A Breakfast Obsession

Looking at my past posts, I've realized that I seem
to have an obsession with breakfast. Well,
may the love affair continue.
This weekend, I made the most delicious French Toast.
It was decadent. I had seen an
episode of Diners, Dives, and Drive-Ins
(I think that's the name of the show).
On the show, they featured an eatery in Baltimore called the
Blue Moon Cafe. The girl that owns it makes
Captain Crunch French Toast. It looked so good, that
I tried a version of my own. I made Reese's French Toast.
It was heavenly.
The kids loved it. They informed me that
it wasn't like eating breakfast, it was like dessert.
It really was good. Served up with
some whipped cream, it really was like dessert.
Here's the recipe:
6lg. eggs
5T. sugar
2c. half and half or heavy cream
1t. vanilla extract
1/2t. cinnamon
1/2t. nutmeg
1/2c. butter
1 (16oz) box Reese's cereal
1 Loaf of bread cut into thick slices (similar in size to
Texas toast slices. I made my own loaves of sweet bread, because it's really
hard to find thick slices of bread)
1. Pour cereal into a gallon size Ziploc bag and crush to a course meal. Make sure there are some larger sizes in the cereal. Pour the crushed cereal into a
9 X 13 pan.
2. Combine the eggs, sugar, cream, vanilla, and spices in a large bowl.
3. Dip the bread into the batter, shake off any excess batter.
4. Dredge in the cereal, press cereal on bread. Place the cereal coated
bread onto a parchment lined cookie sheet until all the slices
are coated.
5. Heat 2T. butter in a large skillet, brown slices of toast.
ENJOY!!

Cat Nap

Jon took these pictures. Lucy was sleeping next to me, holding her cat toy.
Isn't she cute?!
